The annual Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards took place on 30 October and we were delighted to be chosen as finalists for the second year in a row.
The prestigious awards were this year held at the First Direct Arena in Leeds – a spacious venue suitable for the 1,000+ guests who attend every year, making it the largest celebration of tourism and businesses in the UK.
There were 17 different categories for the awards – this year we were moved from Arts & Culture to Tourism Event of the Year, which went to worthy winners, the Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate.
The Awards were hosted by Harry Gration and Amy Garcia from BBC Look North and entertainment included Yorkshire performance artists and an exclusive screening of a new film promoting the county from Welcome to Yorkshire.
Our Festival team very much enjoyed bumping into Sally Dexter – Emmerdale’s Faith Dingle – at the drinks reception, and also the fantastic dinner, from a menu by chef Simon Gueller of The Box Tree, Ilkley.
Professor Colin Mellors, the chair of judging panel, said: “Given the tough competition, this year’s winners deserve our warmest congratulations. The region’s visitor economy goes from strength to strength and our tourism businesses provide sector-leading levels of service and hospitality.”
