An Afternoon with The Yorkshire Shepherdess

Enjoy an afternoon of entertaining and inspirational stories from Amanda Owen, The Yorkshire Shepherdess, in this special Huddersfield Literature Festival event.

Book tickets

Born and bred in Huddersfield, Amanda was inspired by reading James Herriot stories to move to a 2,000-acre sheep farm at Ravenseat in the Yorkshire Dales, where she is raising a family of nine children.

Amanda’s genuine, down-to-earth approach to life in the countryside has inspired a global audience. Following Our Yorkshire Farm (Channel 5) and Amanda Owen’s Farming Lives (More4), a new series Our Farm Next Door (More4) has documented the family’s renovation of Anty John’s, a derelict 200-year-old Grade II listed farmhouse.

The Sunday Times bestselling author of five books about her life as a shepherdess,

Amanda has also now written a children’s book Christmas Tales from the Farm. A perfect Christmas gift for younger readers, it’s a heartwarming collection of festive stories inspired by characters – both two-legged and four – on and around the farm.

Books will be available to purchase on the night and Amanda will be signing copies of her books, including her new children’s book, after the on-stage interview.

Amanda is a hugely popular public speaker and we strongly recommend early booking to secure your preferred seats.

Suitable for beginners or those that have tried it before. Participants will choose one small image (7″ x 5″) and one large image (10″ x 8″) to complete with a vivid palette. There will be six images of famous Yorkshire places to choose from, pre-drawn on to silk, so you are bound to find the ones that mean something to you.

Your artwork will be taken home with a mountboard frame to finish it off.

Louise Grassby is a local artist, who has been teaching silk painting techniques for many years and has developed this workshop especially for HuddLitFest 2025. Materials provided – all you need is some enthusiasm and an apron!
