About the event
Kirklees Year of Music 2023, BSDC, Kirklees Libraries and HLF present: a drop-in, family-friendly immersive experience showcasing a new work Dewey, which explores the world of libraries through dance.
The Dewey Decimal System is a way of organising the books in a library based on the division of all knowledge into 10 groups.
This drop-in performance of Dewey connects BSDC’s repertoire of Indian and western contemporary dance to the famous Dewey classification system for library books. How relevant is the Dewey system today to make sense of the world, what work fits where: is it dance, biography, sport, nature, literature?
Drawing upon the visual storytelling of classical Indian dance, the artists find the best place to classify their work in the world of libraries. A family-based, fun piece with exquisite live music and performances. Dewey is a rolling event all afternoon. Suitable for all ages.
Balbir Singh Dance Company (BSDC) Founded in 1998 by Balbir Singh, BSDC has grown to be a leading dance company that specialises in blending contemporary western dance and classical Indian Kathak.
