Description

An evening of chat with professional star of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing and bestselling novelist Anton Du Beke.

Professional dancer Anton has been on the Strictly pro team since the very first series, partnering celebrities such as Patsy Palmer, Jerry Hall and Judy Murray, while his pairing with former MP Ann Widdecombe became the stuff of Strictly legend.

Now Anton has added another string to his bow, as a Sunday Times bestselling novelist.

One Enchanted Evening London, 1936. Inside the spectacular Grand Ballroom of the exclusive Buckingham Hotel the rich and powerful rub shoulders with Raymond de Guise and his troupe of talented dancers, but a secret from Raymond’s past threatens all he holds dear. Meanwhile, chambermaid Nancy Nettleton dreams of joining the dancers on the ballroom floor. As the storm clouds of war gather, beneath the glitz and glamour of the ballroom lurks an irresistible world of scandal and secrets. “Downton with dance, perfect!” Santa Montefiore

Moonlight Over Mayfair London 1937. With a new king in place and talk of war, the Buckingham Hotel is trying to regain some stability. Upstairs, Vivienne Edgerton is desperate to do something worthwhile with her time and her stepfather’s money, rather than spending it on frivolity and debauchery – but will this land her in even more trouble? And downstairs, chambermaid Nancy Nettleton is starting to feel more settled, although she misses the man she loves, dancer Raymond de Guise, who is noticeably absent from the Grand Ballroom. The ultimate feel-good read, Anton Du Beke’s second novel is gloriously escapist and rapturously romantic.

About Anton Du Beke
Anton grew up in Sevenoaks, Kent with his Spanish mother, Hungarian father, and his brother and sister. He started dancing at 14, studying contemporary, jazz, ballet and modern theatre dance, as well as being a junior boxer and county footballer. Anton had a lot of ground to make up though, as by 14 most people were already experienced competitors on the junior circuit. At 17, Anton specialised in Ballroom, favouring the Foxtrot, much like his idol Fred Astaire.

In 1997, Anton met Erin Boag, and within a year the duo had captured the New Zealand Championship – a feat they repeated the following year. Having appeared in Strictly Come Dancing since the year it started (2004), Anton is the longest-serving professional dancer on the series.

Age recommendation: 10+ (You may bring younger children but we ask that they are supervised; all children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult).
