How do you find out about arts and events happening in your local area? Local paper, listings magazines or online listings? If you work in a creative sector, how easy is it to meet and engage with others in similar or related sectors?
In Huddersfield, we are very lucky to have a broad range of arts groups, covering books, music, poetry, visual arts and more. Many of them share the same aims and they can and do work together.
A couple of years ago I attended a Knowledge Sandwich event at the Media Centre in Huddersfield. This is a chance for individuals to share information and make connections over lunch. The speakers were from HCAN (Huddersfield Creative Arts Network) and I joined the group soon afterwards.
To quote from the HCAN website:
HCAN is a not-for-profit, community-led organisation that provides a catalyst for creative minds in and around Huddersfield to come together to achieve world-class programmes and projects.
HCAN’s Join the Circle evenings are aimed at bringing creative people together for sharing ideas and networking.
The next one will take place during the Huddersfield Literature Festival, in fact, immediately before our launch.
We are still developing HCAN as a group and, with plans to develop HLF and broaden its scope in future years, this is your opportunity to connect with both organisations here and now. Places are free but limited so it’s best to book.
Hope to see you there.
